Officer denied bail for corruptly receiving money from robbery victim

A police officer has been charged for corruptly receiving money from a robbery victim.

Appearing in the Port-of-Spain 5th Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Police Constable Deon Ince was also denied bail.

On October 6th 2023, a woman on Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, was robbed of TT and US currencies, as well as her passport and other items.

Since then, she claimed to have been approached twice by a police officer at the Nelson Street Housing Development Plannings, who assured that he would retrieve the stolen items in return for a reward.

On October 11th, the woman met the officer at Independence Square where she allegedly gave him $1,000 before his immediate arrest by the Professional Standards Bureau.

The court matter was postponed to October 23rd 2023.
