NZ exact World Cup revenge, beat England by 9 wickets

New Zealand were able to exact revenge for the 2019 World Cup final, as they beat defending champions England by nine wickets today.

Batting first in the opening match for the 2023 edition of the tournament, England were led to 282/9, thanks to 77 from Joe Root.

The Kiwis then lost just one wicket during their pursuit, with scores of 152* from Devon Conway and 123* from Rachin Ravindra.

That their impressive 273-run partnership began at the start of the second over after Will Young was out for a first-ball duck.

The victory meanwhile was achieved without captain Kane Williamson, who is continuing his recovery from knee surgery.
