Nurses call for proper staffing system, better ambulances

Nurses today staged a placard protest in Port of Spain, calling on those in authority to take immediate steps to address deficiencies in the local health care system.

The demonstration began outside the Port of Spain General Hospital, with the crowd marching first to office of the NWRHA’s CEO and then to the Health Ministry’s head office.

Speaking to the media was President of the T&T Registered Nurses Association, Idi Stuart, who called on the Health Ministry to establish a patient to staff ratio in the public system.

He says the current reality is far from efficient or fair.

Mr Stuart says patients themselves have long pointed out a lack of proper nursing staff on the wards.

He also called for better ambulances.
