NTA Political Leader Gary Griffith believes there was a failure of sound diplomatic judgment in the statement by the Opposition Leader on the inauguration of US President Donald Trump.

In her congratulations to Mr Trump, Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the previous US government was a disaster for the country and the world, focused on pushing a woke agenda.

Mr Griffith however believes proper diplomatic discipline dictates that those representing the country must never seem to favour one administration over the other.

He questioned whether there would be a strained dynamic between T&T and the US should the Democrats win the 2028 US elections and Mrs Persad-Bissessar return as T&T Prime Minister.

Mr Griffith said diplomacy is not about scoring political points but instead about securing the people’s well-being.
