Candidates have filed their papers to contest two local government by-elections to be held on June 17th.

Filing for the district of Lengua/Indian Walk in the Princes Town Regional Corporation were Autly Granthume for the PNM and Nicole Gopaul for the UNC.

The race for this area ended in a tie in last year’s Local Government Elections.

A by-election is also carded for Quinam/Morne Diablo in the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation following the death of Councillor and Corporation Chairman Diptee Ramnath in December 2023.

Filing nomination papers for this district were Sarah Sookdeo for the UNC and Anderson Nanan for the PNM.

At the end of nomination day, the Elections and Boundaries Commission is expected to issue a statement regarding those who have submitted their papers to contest the polls.
