No prisoners have applied for weed charges to be removed

There have been no prisoners being freed due to the removal of drug charges since the decriminalization of certain amounts of marijuana.

That law was amended in 2019, whereby persons who were convicted for having 100 grams or less of weed could apply to have their record expunged.

But, in the Senate today, the Attorney General explained that since then no applications were made by any prisoners, though a number of non-prisoners have sought to clear their records.

The AG was asked to find out from prison authorities whether or not prisoners who may qualify for this expungement were made aware of that they could apply.
