There will be no penalty for persons who are unable to pay their Property Tax by the September 30th deadline due to the non-receipt of a valid assessment notice.
This clarification came today from Finance Minister Colm Imbert in the Senate.
Valid assessments include those that need to be reissued following a change in the Property Tax rate.
Mr Imbert also faced questions about lengthy lines to pay the Tax.
He said while no additional payment locations will be added before September 30th, efforts will be made to expand capacity at existing sites.
When asked about the option to pay online, he insisted that this was a “very complex matter”.
He said one issue is the service charge normally deducted by financial institutions for online payments.
Another issue listed is the proper recording of payments, especially in light of recent issues with the Auditor General.
The Minister insisted that efforts are being made to eventually have an online payment option.
