PM: no mediation for Guyana-Venezuela border dispute

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says a call for mediation in the Guyana/Venezuela border dispute is going against the position of the people of Guyana.

The PM spoke briefly today on the unfolding situation regarding Venezuela’s claim to the Essequibo territory.

He reminded that Guyana has taken the matter to the International Court of Justice.

Caricom leaders will reportedly hold an emergency meeting at 5pm today to discuss the Guyana-Venezuela situation.

According to a report by the Trinidad Express, word of this comes from Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Amery Browne.

The video conference meeting comes after a referendum and subsequent action by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro regarding control of the Essequibo region.
