NIDCO has initiated remedial measures to address slope slippage along the westbound lane of the Connector Road at the Elmina Clarke Allen Highway.
According to the Works Ministry, technical assessments indicate that the slippage is due to water saturation along the incomplete slopes.
It says this is an isolated occurrence, adding that despite the current slippage, the roadway remains safe for public use.
According to the Ministry, final slope grading and grassing will begin to mitigate future risk and ensure long-term durability.
It adds that other outstanding works required to complete the Connector Road include:
- Relocation of two WASA lines at the Guaico River Bridge along the Eastern Main Road
- Construction of reinforced concrete box drains along the EMR
- Demolition of the Guaico River Bridge
- Completion of a precast box culvert across the EMR
- Construction of the final roadway link between the EMR and Railway Road
Yesterday, Works Minister Jearlean John visited the site where she received a comprehensive update on the issue and work to be done.
