NFM: no ADA in flour products

National Flour Mills Ltd has issued a statement assuring that its flour is free of azodicarbonamide or ADA.

This follows claims on social media that ADA was used in the in the preparation of its Ibis brand flour.

NFM days it no longer uses ADA in Ibis flour, or in any of its products.

It says, “In response to consumer concerns, the agent was replaced with a natural food enzyme (with ascorbic acid) as part of the company’s ‘Clean Label’ initiative which NFM is currently pursuing with all brands of flour it produces.”

It adds, “NFM notes that the image of the Ibis Flour 2 kg package shared on Facebook that listed azodicarbonamide among its ingredients, was taken a few years ago, given the “Best Before Date 12 JUN, 18” clearly visible in the photograph, which denotes that the product was produced in 2017, given the 6-month shelf-life for flour.”

NFM says ‘Clean Label’ is an industry term that describes foods and beverages that are free from artificial ingredients or synthetic chemicals.
