Netherlands join Sri Lanka in qualifying for 2023 World Cup

All-rounder Bas de Leede has ensured that Netherlands are in the 2023 ICC World Cup in India after a 4-wicket win over Scotland.

It was a straightforward equation today – Scotland would be in the World Cup with a win but Netherlands could sneak in with a significant enough margin of victory.

And the Dutch did just that – they chased 278 in just 42.5 overs and with four wickets in hand, on the back of de Leede’s 123 from 92 balls.

Earlier, de Leede took 5/52 in 10 overs as Scotland were restricted to 277/9.

The victory means Netherlands finish in second place in the Super Six, booking the second of two World Cup spots, as their net-run-rate ended up better than Scotland’s.

Sri Lanka will finish first and have a chance to complete five wins from five games when they face West Indies tomorrow.
