The National Trade Union Centre says the labour impasse at the Port of Port of Spain is still “ongoing.”

Guardian Media yesterday reported that Defence Force personnel were enlisted by the port to offload a vessel, and the Port Authority reported that all operations of the Port were ongoing.

However, in a media release today, NATUC condemned the use of the military during the labour impasse, claiming this undermines the principles of fair labour relations and threatens workers’ rights.

It insists that the Port should cease the use of the Defence Force, meet with the SWWTU to resolve the impasse and implement a 12% wage increase for dockworkers for the bargaining period 2014 to 2017.
