The National Security Minister says five fishermen missing at sea reportedly went to an area within Venezuelan territory and outside of the T&T Coast Guard’s jurisdiction.

The matter was raised in Parliament this afternoon by Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal.

Minister Fitzgerald Hinds said authorities were told by the caretaker of the boat the men used that they reportedly went to an area called the Greenbush or The Mang.

Mr Hinds added that the Coast Guard were informed that fellow fishermen searched the south coast, so it focused efforts on the Gulf of Paria and the maritime border leading towards the Grand Boca.

These searches, he noted, have not yielded any positive results.
