Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo will deliver the Mid Year Budget Review this afternoon in Parliament.

He is expected to give an update on the state of the country’s economy and the status of the Treasury.

On Monday, the Standing Finance Committee approved a supplementation of $3.1 billion to sustain the operational costs of various ministries and Government departments.

However, economist Dr Vaalmikki Arjoon says this will push the economy over the $8 billion deficit mark, which he believes can add further financial strain to the growing debt burden.

Dr Arjoon is however hopeful that the country can improve its current financial situation.
