The Naparima Constituency Executive is again calling on the UNC announce a date for the party’s internal elections.

In a statement signed by Chairman Shazan Mohammed, the Executive thanks Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar for confirming that the poll will be held when due.

It is now hoping that a date is announced soon, so that free and fair elections will be held to determine the true will of the party’s membership.

In the interim, it is calling for the immediate postponement of the screening process that is “now administratively prioritized”, saying “we are firmly convinced that it is not proper protocol to be screening candidates for a General Election due late next year while Natex elections are on the immediate horizon.”

It adds that it will not be right for an incoming Natex “to be saddled by decisions deliberately taken by an outgoing one” as it “can, and will, frustrate democracy in our great party.”
