Elon Musk and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy will serve in a new “Department of Government Efficiency” in Donald Trump’s administration.
Trump says the body will “dismantle government bureaucracy” and could be the “Manhattan Project of our time” – a reference to the top-secret effort to develop nuclear weapons during World War Two.
He added that their work will conclude on July 4th, 2026, and culminate with a smaller government with more efficiency and less bureaucracy.
The President-elect has also picked Fox News host and Army veteran Pete Hegseth to be his Defence Secretary, John Ratcliffe to be director of national intelligence and Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
Republicans are closing in on a majority in the House of Representatives.
