MP wants gov’t to reveal cost of TSTT/CWU case

Government is being urged to state how much money was spent in an Industrial Court matter involving the Communication Workers Union and 500 retrenched TSTT employees.

The call comes from Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh after the Court ordered TSTT to compensate the workers in the sum of around $5 million after ruling in favour of the union.

The union reportedly alleged that the company failed to comply with statutory obligations and procedural fairness during the retrenchment process.

MP Indarsingh says given that the State lost the case, it should reveal the amount of taxpayers’ money spent on legal counsel.

He believes the result is a clear indication that government cannot be trusted and will stab workers in their backs.
