MP urges government to intervene regarding cement prices

Government is being urged to intervene and avoid an increase in the price of cement.

According to a report by Guardian Media, prices are set to rise by 7% from February 17th, 2025.

Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal says Trinidad Cement Limited should be advised to put the increase on hold while government holds discussions with majority shareholder Cemex.

He also believes there should be an investigation by the Fair Trading Commission and he says the increase – a fifth since December 2021 – is an act of price-gouging.
