MP to Finance Minister: Include SMEs in foreign exchange talks

The Finance Minister is being urged to include the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) sector in upcoming talks about foreign exchange.

According to reports, Mr Colm Imbert will meet with commercial banks and the business community to discuss increased demand for foreign exchange.

In a media release, Mayaro MP Rushton Paray says these talks must not sideline the challenges facing SMEs.

He says the sector is grappling issues including closures forced by the COVID-19 pandemic and foreign exchange shortages.

Mr Paray says Minister Imbert must include SMEs into the upcoming discussions and contemplate mechanisms which can guarantee fair foreign exchange allocations.
