MP laments T&T’s decrease in WJP Rule of Law index

Trinidad and Tobago’s score in the World Justice Project’s Rule of Law index has decreased.

The project measures countries’ constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice, criminal justice and informal justice.

This year, T&T’s rule of law score dropped by -1.3%, and the country now ranks 74th out of 142 in the world and 15th of 32 in the region.

Chaguanas West MP Dinesh Rambally says T&T’s ranking shows that government is failing while gang violence and criminality is prevalent.

He is calling on government to engage the best experts to develop effective strategies that restore the rule of law in the country.
