Following a murder in Carlsen Field, there is a renewed call for farmers and fisherfolk to be issued Firearm User’s Licences.

It comes from Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram who says the killing of Christopher Christian during a home invasion on Monday is the latest in a spate of violence in the area.

The family is reported by the Trinidad Express as describing the incident as another “targeted attack” on farmers in the community.

MP Ratiram says it is not the first time he has requested FULs for farmers, as he made a similar call during a media briefing in September 2023 in response to incidents of Praedial larceny.

Such calls, he notes, have fallen on deaf ears and warns that without the ability to protect themselves, farmers and fisherfolk remain vulnerable to increasingly violent attacks.
