Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram is calling on government for action to address crime against fisherfolk and incidents of piracy.

In a media release, the MP noted a demonstration held yesterday by Carli Bay fisherfolk.

MP Ratiram said they are echoing calls he has been making since 2020 for the resources, particularly a coast guard base at the Carli Bay Fishing Facility.

He believes government must act quickly and prioritize the well-being of those who rely on the coastal waters for their livelihoods.

MP Ratiram added that these fisherfolk are vital contributors to the local economy and the country’s breadbasket.
