An uphill battle – that is how an MP describes the challenge facing the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation in spraying for mosquitoes.

Tabaquite MP Anita Haynes-Alleyne says her office and the corporation have received both reports of dengue cases and requests for spraying.

However, she notes that the corporation, which covers a large geographical area, only has one machine for spraying.

She insists that government support, in the form of equipment, manpower and data is critical as the corporation attempts to maximize its limited resources.

MP Haynes-Alleyne says, while citizens have a role to play to mitigate the spread of dengue, government has the foremost responsibility – and she believes they have dropped the ball.
