MP criticizes government’s crime fight after body found in waterway

The Couva North MP has criticized the government’s handling of crime in T&T, following yet another murdered body.

One of the latest, which occurred last Friday, was the discovery of a body disposed of in the most inhumane manner within a waterway near the Chase Village flyover.

MP Ravi Ratiram stated “The Rowley PNM has failed to protect and preserve the lives of the people who elected them to government, and now bodies are being found littered on the streets of this nation. For some time now there has been a plethora of criminal activities that are being driven by the illegal drugs and weapons being imported through our many porous borders that are either ignored or unseen by local authorities.”

His statement comes days after the Prime Minister responded to reports of progress being made in crime fighting, and stated “It is good news to hear that at least on this occasion we can see some light at the end of the tunnel against the criminal element.”

MP Ratiram meanwhile stated “While the Prime Minister is toasting another year of six hundred murders in this country, it is the poor and desperate citizens whose lives have been added to the tally of deaths caused by the refusal of the PNM to deal with crime effectively over the past eight years.”
