MP: Authorities commit to bailey bridge at St John’s Branch Trace

Authorities have committed to installing a bailey bridge as a short-term measure at St John’s Branch Trace, Fyzabad, where a collapsed bridge left close to 40 residents marooned.

This has been confirmed to 103.1FM News by Fyzabad MP Dr Lackram Bodoe who says he spoke to the Local Government Minister following the collapse yesterday.

Seven homes were isolated, and a boat has been donated by a resident to ferry residents across the river on an emergency basis.

Noting the Minister’s commitment to building a temporary bridge, Dr Bodoe is calling for the measure to be implemented in the shortest possible time as residents’ vehicles and agricultural produce remain trapped on the other side of the river.

He adds that the fallen structure must be removed as soon as possible as it is impeding the watercourse and could lead to flooding when rains fall.
