The counties of Victoria, St Patrick and Caroni currently account for about 86% of confirmed Dengue cases.
This revelation came today from Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh, as he spoke during a media briefing at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital.
There are 509 lab confirmed cases – Mr Deyalsingh says county Victoria has about 50% of the cases, St Patrick has 22% and Caroni has about 14%.
There are still five lab confirmed deaths.
As for the majority of the cases, the Health Minister revealed that they are mostly children and young adults.
Mr Deyalsingh was joined by several health officials in urging persons to keep their surroundings clear of clean, stagnant water, as these are the breeding ground for Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes, which transmit Dengue.
He revealed that 166 property owners given notices in relation to this.
He adds that further legal measures may also be put in place.
Persons are warned that clean, stagnant water can often be found inside the home: in the tracks for bathroom enclosures, plant pots, and even dish draining racks.
Mr Deyalsingh says it is important to eliminate sources such as these, since spraying by the State can only kill adult mosquitoes and not larvae.
He adds that it is not feasible to continuously spray for adult mosquitoes, as it would mean spraying each area every 10 days.
