Moroccan residents protest to demand post-earthquake aid

Residents of a Moroccan town, among the hardest hit by an earthquake in September, have protested in a demand for aid.

The September 8th quake killed nearly 3,000 people and left thousands more injured and homeless.

Morocco’s government said it started disbursing money in a monthly assistance programme for a year, while displaced families were put up in tented camps with a promise of financial help to rebuild their homes.

However, according to BBC News, residents in Amizmiz accuse local authorities of delaying aid and neglecting them.

They also accuse them of withholding assistance, including tents, from some of the residents who lost their homes.
