MoH refutes claims of delays in the drug registration process

The Health Ministry is refuting allegations of delays in the drug registration process.

In a statement, it points to recent statements made by Glenwayne Suchit – President of the Private Pharmacy Retail Business Association, as well as a newspaper article which quoted attorney Jagdeo Singh as saying that clients have reported delays when applying for pharmaceutical permits.

The Ministry insists these claims have no basis in truth.

It says just last month, the matter was addressed in the Parliament by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh, who said between January to November 18th 2024, 831 drug applications were received, of which 503 were approved, while 270 were in the process of being gazette.

It also claims that a major reason why there may be delays in the processing of new drug applications is the inability or unwillingness of applicants to provide the necessary regulatory documents.
