MoH holds retraining session to strengthen mosquito source reduction campaign

The Health Ministry says it has held a retraining session with County Medical Officers of Health and Senior Public Health Inspectors.

This is part of its ongoing effort to strengthen its mosquito source reduction campaign.

It reminds persons of their role in eliminating breeding sites for the Aedes species of mosquito including:

  • Disposing of all unwanted articles, derelict vehicles or appliances in the yard or environs which can collect water and become mosquito breeding grounds.
  • Covering water containers such as tanks, barrels, drums or buckets with a mosquito proof covering.
  • Cutting down and removing all bush or undergrowth that can harbour mosquitoes.
  • Cleaning drains and guttering to allow for the free flow of water.
  • Using mosquito nets and insect repellent, when appropriate, as a means of personal protection.

The Ministry also reminds that there is a fine of $3,500 or imprisonment for six months for those found to have contravened the Yellow Fever Regulations.
