Ministry: T&T’s three Malaria cases for 2024 all imported

T&T has recorded three laboratory confirmed cases of Malaria for 2024, and all are imported cases.

This is according to the Health Ministry which is urging person who intend to travel to Malaria endemic countries to seek chemoprophylaxis.

It notes that persons can contact the nearest County Medical Office of Health for the medication which can be taken to prevent diseases prior to travel.

T&T was certified Malaria-free in 1965 by the WHO and has maintained its non-endemic status to date.

The Ministry adds that although T&T is a non-endemic country, it maintains an adequate supply of medication to treat cases as they occur.

During the period 2014 to 2023, the average number of laboratory confirmed Malaria cases recorded annually in this country was 15.
