The Works and Transport Ministry says it has taken note of reports regarding the quality of work at the Bridal Road and Perseverance Road bridges.
Both structures were reopened on Friday, however persons have since shared photos and videos showing sinks near the Bridal Road Bridge.
Meanwhile at Perseverance Road, Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed says “poorly designed humps” have led to “traffic chaos.”
The Ministry says the statements create a “misleading narrative” of the Ministry’s rigorous standard of certification of its infrastructural projects, which can cause unnecessary panic and fear.
It says prior to the official opening of the Bridal Road Bridge, the PURE Unit was fully aware that additional works were required as the project was 95% complete.
As for the Perseverance Road Bridge, it says the Highways Division is still in the process of conducting other ancillary works at the site.
It adds that “the PURE Unit and Highways Division will continue to undertake the necessary works to ensure the Bridal Road Bridge and Perseverance Road Bridge are fully completed.”
It also reminds that there a weight limit of 5 tonnes on the Perseverance Road Bridge, which at this time is opened to light motor vehicles only.
Works Minister Rohan Sinanan told 103.1FM News that while some work remained at both sites, a decision was made to re-open the bridges since they would help alleviate traffic with the start of the new school term.
He adds that the remaining work would be done in a way to minimize disruptions to motorists and commuters.
