The Social Development Ministry is today responding to claims by the Cerebral Palsy Society that they have been put out of the National Enrichment Centre in Carlsen Field, Chaguanas.
According to reports, Society President Philip Metivier says they have been asked to leave the facility which they use to provide free therapeutic services to children with disabilities.
In a statement, the Ministry says to date it has no correspondence giving Mr Metivier authority to use the NEC, now called the National Therapeutic and Resource Centre for Persons with Disabilities.
The Ministry adds that its Executive is still to ascertain why the Society would want to use a venue that is currently under repairs and refurbishment.
It says on September 29th 2023, an agreement was signed with the Digicel Trinidad and Tobago Foundation to establish a multidisciplinary centre to provide enhanced and state of the art rehabilitative services to persons with disabilities.
It says the Centre aims to use a community – based therapeutic approach in order to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities by providing adequate and effective habilitative and rehabilitative services, with the aim of reducing the plethora of health conditions, illnesses and injuries that result from their disability.
