Another step will be taken tomorrow towards having T&T removed from the EU tax blacklist.
This as Finance Minister Colm Imbert travels to France, leaving Minister Allyson West acting in his portfolio.
The Minister, at a media briefing today, elaborated on his trip which will entail the signing of a tax administration treaty.
Minister Imbert said he will go the EU headquarters in Brussels after signing the treaty to request that T&T be moved from the blacklist to a “grey list” which recognises that progress is being made.
EU list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes
According to the EU’s website, “The EU list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes is part of the EU’s work to fight tax evasion and avoidance. It is composed of countries which have failed to fulfil their commitments to comply with tax good governance criteria within a specific timeframe, and countries which have refused to do so.”
