Government has given the UWI Administration a new 6% offer for a wage increase covering August 2014 to July 2020.
This is according to an update from Finance Minister Colm Imbert who reminds that the Administration is the employer of The UWI’s academic staff with the responsibility to negotiate with WIGUT.
He explains that the new 6% offer will cost $23 million per year in additional recurrent costs for The UWI and result in backpay of $165 million.
Mr Imbert says government has agreed to pay all of this on the university’s behalf.
WIGUT has been asking for a 24% increase for the period 2014 to 2017.
