Policing was the focus of a meeting involving National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds and several US law enforcement experts.

Held yesterday, the meeting was coordinated by the US Embassy, and featured George Turner – former Chief of Police at the Atlanta Police Department; Charles Ramsey – former Police Commissioner of Philadelphia; Sean Smoot – Managing Partner of 21 CPS; Stanley Savage – President of B&A Consulting Group; and Scott Hansen – Political and Economic Chief at the US Embassy in Port of Spain.

According to the Ministry, issues discussed included:

• Building the capacity and quality of policing
• Strengthening and deepening Community Policing
• Re-building trust between law enforcement and the public

Minister Hinds has since emphasized an openness to exploring opportunities and for further collaboration on law enforcement development.

Also among those attending the meeting were Minister in the National Security Ministry Keith Scotland SC; and Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher.
