Local meteorologists are monitoring the possibility of a tropical depression forming out of oncoming weather system AL96 by mid-week.

Met Service Director Shakeer Baig, speaking at a media conference this morning, said as Hurricane Beryl moves away from the region, all eyes will be focused on this area of low pressure to the east of the Caribbean.

He noted that the National Hurricane Centre has advised officials to closely monitor the progress and development of AL96.

The NHC has given the system a formation chance through 48 hours of 30% and a formation chance through seven days of 60%.
