Met Service expecting usual rainfall amounts for 2024 dry season

The Met Service’s 2024 dry season outlook is indicating a “strongly enhanced signal” for usual rainfall amounts.

A National Climate Outlook Forum was held this morning where the outlook was given by Acting Climatologist Kaidar Kissoon.

His presentation stated that, in general, the 2024 dry season is likely to get between 61% and 102% of the average seasonal rainfall.

He added that the country is likely to get about 102 dry-days, just below the average of 108 – a dry-day is one with less than 1mm of rainfall.

There is a 70% probability for four to seven 7-day dry spells and one to three 10-day dry spells.

The probability for long-term drought conditions by the end of May 2024 is low.

As the wet season wraps up in the coming weeks, Mr Kissoon added that flood potential remains low for December 2023, despite this month set to have the most rainfall for the next three months.
