A 25-year-old man was shot and killed during a shootout with police in Tunapuna.

The TTPS says officers went to a home at Dookie Lane around 3:10pm yesterday with a search warrant for firearms and ammunition.

On arrival, they saw a man allegedly running with a rifle on the roof of the house before reportedly shooting at the officers.

The law men returned fire and wounded the man who was later pronounced dead at the hospital in Mt Hope.

The deceased has been identified as Dirrel Bullen.
