One man was killed after gunmen opened fire on an SUV near the arrivals area at the Piarco International Airport early this morning.
The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Arkim Quashie of Nicholas Trace, Maraval.
The victim had arrived on a flight from Panama and was picked up around 1:45am in a blue Hyundai Tuscon with two male passengers.
On entering the vehicle, Quashie allegedly received a phone call and instructed the driver to stop the vehicle.
A silver Nissan Tiida pulled alongside and three men armed with high-powered weapons opened fire in Quashie’s direction.
The assailants then escaped in the Tiida.
Quashie died a short while later, while a 35-year-old man from Maraval sustained gunshot wounds to both legs.
The incident caused panic, with persons abandoning their luggage as they rushed to safety.
