Man fined $15,000 after pleading guilty to drug charge

A 20-year-old Sangre Grande man was fined $15,000 after pleading guilty to possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Omari Williams appeared before Magistrate Cheron Raphael on Tuesday and was given six months to pay or serve two years hard labour.

Williams is one of two men held during a drug block eradication exercise by the Eastern Division Task Force on November 10th.

He was charged after being caught with 1.6 kilograms of cannabis.

The other suspect, 29-year-old Micah Cadette, was also charged for Possession of 69 Grammes of Cannabis and was granted bail by a Justice of the Peace.

He will appear before the court on November 23rd.

The exercise was coordinated by Inspector Ramkissoon.
