A 27-year-old La Romain labourer has been denied bail after pleading not guilty to robbery and assault charges.

Appearing in court yesterday, Akiel Alexander was remanded into custody, with the matter to next be heard on November 10th.

According to police, a 67-year-old woman and her 83-year-old husband were at their Rio Claro home on the night of October 24th when they were accosted by three men.

The suspects beat the victims and eventually escaped with a Samsung cellphone, gold jewellery and cash.

Alexander was arrested last Friday in connection with another robbery and was allegedly found possession of the Samsung cellphone.
