Man accidentally shot in the ankle by police

A man was shot in the ankle by police in what the TTPS says was an accidental discharge.

The incident occurred yesterday.

The wounded man was taken to hospital where he was medically examined and treated.

The TTPS says Senior Superintendent (Ag.) Port-of-Spain Division, Harripersad Ramnarine has since appointed Superintendent (Ag.) Nanan to conduct an investigation, in keeping with standard operating procedures for police-involved shootings.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, in proximity of the shooting, police held a 40-year-old man for possession of a gun.

Officers reportedly searched three men following a report of a group of men armed with firearms in the vicinity of a bar along St Ann’s Road.
