Soca star Machel Montano has received the keys to the city of Kingston during last night’s “Emancipendence” celebrations.

According to the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, Machel’s early education began in Jamaica where it says he undoubtedly developed his love and appreciation for music, culture and the arts.

Posting on social media this morning, the entertainer said, “I am really proud to represent the brotherly and sisterly love between Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago as we both celebrate 61 years of independence.”

Machel also performed with his usual high energy at the celebrations at the Independence Grand Gala.

Back in April, Machel headlined “Wi Fete – the Ultimate Caribbean Music Festival” which was held during the weekend of Jamaica’s Carnival.
