The Local Government Ministry has launched its Flood Mitigation and Shelter Management Exercise 2025.

This will see it target local water courses to alleviate floods and flooding issues.

Minister Khadijah Ameen said these proactive measures are not an overnight fix, since national watercourses require a major overhaul and help from the Works Ministry’s Drainage Division.

Ms Ameen said the project is meant to mobilize resources from across all regional corporations and entities under the Ministry, to enhance the country’s readiness to face natural disasters.

There will also be a partnership with the Agriculture Ministry to help protect farmers against flooding, since this can increase the cost of food.
