Local company Capital Signal is spearheading a relief effort to Carriacou island in Grenada, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl. Here’s what we know so far.
Relief for Cariacou
Port and Facilities Manager, Adam Roatant (396-9165) is spearheading the collection at Capital Signal. All items collected are being sorted and logged in a covered storage facility to thereafter be packed into a container for shipping.
Basic Necessities
1. Water: Clean drinking water, water purification tablets, and portable water filters.
2. Food: Non-perishable food items such as canned goods, dry grains, and high-energy snacks.
3. Shelter: Tents, tarps, and plastic sheeting for temporary housing.
4. Clothing: Warm clothing, blankets, and sleeping bags.
Medical Supplies
1. First Aid Kits: Bandages, antiseptics, gauze, and medical tape.
2. Medications: Essential medicines, including antibiotics, pain relievers, and medications for chronic conditions.
3. Sanitation: Portable toilets, hand sanitizers, and hygiene kits (soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.).
Tools and Equipment
1. Generators: Portable generators and fuel to provide temporary power.
2. Lighting: Solar-powered or battery-operated lanterns and flashlights.
3. Tools: Basic tools for repairs (hammers, nails, saws, etc.).
4. Communication Devices: Satellite phones, radios, and batteries.
