There is significant potential for an uptick in vaccination rates for the Human Papillomavirus in T&T.
This is according to Soroptimist International National Association of T&T which has launched its Cervical Cancer Prevention Campaign.
The campaign seeks to increase awareness of the HPV vaccine and its role in preventing cervical and other HPV-related cancers.
HPV is the name of a very common group of viruses which do not cause any problems in most people, but some types can cause genital warts or cancer. [read more]
The association says countries with high vaccination rates, such as Australia and the UK, have seen dramatic reductions in infections and cancer rates.
However, in T&T, it says vaccination rates stand at around 12% and show significant potential for an uptick.
