Let foreign athletes with T&T roots represent us

CONGRATULATIONS, MP Keith Scotland, on your appointment as Minister in the Ministry of National Security.

May I suggest that the first task in your ministerial portfolio be to amend the immigration laws of Trinidad and Tobago to allow overseas athletes whose grandparents have Trinbagonian citizenship to represent the red, white and black across all sports?

This act will widen the pool of sporting talent eligible to represent our beloved nation and push our local athletes to new levels, hence improving our international performance in various sports.

For the Soca Warriors, this may not boost our FIFA 2026 World Cup qualification chances, but it doesn’t matter because it’s long overdue anyway.

Minister Scotland, since you are ready for the job, and Minister Hinds is always busy, I challenge you to prove to this country that the Cabinet you belong to cares about the football community, and sport in general.

Minister Scotland, please get to work.
