The number of people facing acute hunger in Haiti has now reached half of the country’s population.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization says this is according to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification analysis.

It says 5.4 million people struggle to feed themselves and their families daily, representing one of the highest proportions of acutely food insecure people in any crisis worldwide.

Haiti has been grappling with gang violence which spiked in the capital of Port-au-Prince and has forced hundreds of thousands of people out of their homes in search of safety.
