Kidnap victim Zahir Khan rescued by police

70-year-old Zahir Khan has been rescued from his captors.

The elderly man was dragged out of the yard of his home in Bamboo #1 on Saturday morning.

The TTPS says he was found during a strategic, intelligence -based operation early this morning.

The operation, it adds, followed a late-night meeting held by Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher, Deputy Commissioners Suzette Martin and Junior Benjamin, and ACP Richard Smith.

Officers went to a remote hilly area off Grenado Street, Caledonia -also known as Egypt – where they searched several abandoned structures.

Around 5:20am they were heard faint cries coming from a wood and galvanize structure, and subsequently found Mr. Khan.

The elderly man was taken for medical attention and later reunited with his family.

The kidnappers remain at large however the TTPS says officers remain steadfast in their efforts to capture the perpetrators.

It adds that an AK-47 rifle with 12 rounds of ammunition, was recovered, after being abandoned by one of the suspects while fleeing the scene.

The TTPS statement says, “Commissioner Harewood-Christopher also appealed to those responsible for other kidnappings, including the ongoing case of Shashi Rampersad to release the victim immediately.”
