Joseph leads WI to first Test win in Australia in almost 27 years

A Shamar Joseph seven-wicket haul has led West Indies to an eight-run win over Australia in the second and final Test at the Gabba – the first Test win Down Under in almost 27 years.

Set a target of just 216, Australia seemed to be cruising along at 113/2 but when Joseph removed Cameron Green with one that got some extra bounce, the collapse began.

Joseph took 7/68 in 11.5 overs and fittingly took the final wicket of Josh Hazlewood as Australia were bowled out for 207.

He was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series as West Indies secured a 1-1 draw.

Joseph’s fairytale debut series has seen him pick up 13 wickets in four innings, only behind Hazlewood’s 14 and he also contributed 57 with the bat.

Following the victory, captain Kraigg Brathwaite took time to respond to criticism about his squad saying, “I must say we had two words that inspired us in this Test match. Mr. Rodney Hogg said that we were ‘pathetic and hopeless’. That was our inspiration. We wanted to show the world we’re not pathetic.”
